GENEWIZ, Inc. Completes Key Gene Synthesis of H7N9 Influenza Virus in Four Days

South Plainfield, NJ -- April 9, 2013 -- Leading global genomics service company,GENEWIZ, Inc., synthesized and delivered key genes of the H7N9 influenza virus, responding to the on-going international epidemic prevention efforts.

First reported by the World Health Organization (WHO) on April 1, 2013, the Chinese Academy of Sciences and National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC) approached GENEWIZ Suzhou on April 2 to aid in synthesizing key H7N9 virus genes. Responding with extreme urgency, GENEWIZ successfully delivered two batches of synthetic genes in record time; the first batch of viral genes was hand-delivered to CDC researchers on April 4, and the second batch was delivered shortly thereafter on April 5. Typically, synthesis of similar viral genes takes two weeks or more.

"Being chosen by the China CDC as a trusted partner during this critical time is a testimonial of our expert technical capabilities and superior service," stated Dr. Amy Liao, GENEWIZ President & COO. Leading the response efforts in Suzhou was Weiqiang Liu, GENEWIZ Production Manager.

"Synthesizing key genes of the H7N9 virus is critical for the development of protective and therapeutic agents that act against the H7N9 virus," asserted Liu.

Liao continued, "When time was of the essence, the China CDC had confidence in our team of scientists to act rapidly to complete the synthesis of the H7N9 genes. We truly appreciate the dedication and commitment of our employees, giving up the three-day Ching Ming holiday and helping to curb this potential epidemic."
